Plotting Plausible Futures: A Scientific Approach to Creative Writing

ME.REKA Makerspace

How do you create a believable future, especially as current events shift so rapidly? Will this future be bright, dark, or a gloomy grey? Laura Lam, a writer and a lecturer on the Edinburgh Napier Creative Writing MA, will detail the various aspects of worldbuilding a near future by layering possibilities onto our current infrastructure & society. Together, we will craft a near-future Kuala Lumpur to demonstrate research methods, and see what narrative and character possibilities arise from a worldbuilding-first approach. Participants will be provided with various handouts and additional tips to take away with them for their own work.
