While Malaysia grants equal civic and constitutional rights to its minorities, the implementation of these rights still remains an uphill challenge. Those in indigenous communities, religious minorities, and the LGBT have become so vulnerable to social, economic, and political discrimination that it is now untenable for them to safeguard even their basic human and civic rights. What does this new Malaysia mean for these communities? How do we maintain our national, ethnic, and religious integrity in a country where the minority has as much of a say as the majority?
