Nisha Ayub is a Malaysian transgender rights activist who is currently undergoing discrimination in Malaysia due to latest portrait removal incident. Nisha is best known for defending the rights of transgender persons who are persecuted under sharia law in the various states of Malaysia. Ayub is the co-founder of the community-run SEED Foundation and transgender grassroots campaign Justice for Sisters and is the first transgender woman to be awarded with the prestigious International Women of Courage Award in 2016.
